Our Most Important Work

Branch 569 of the Royal Canadian Legion organizes and participates in a number of projects in and around our communities to promote the remembrance of those who have served and paid the ultimate price for our freedoms.

Poppy Fund

The poppy funds are raised through the ubiquitous poppy boxes in local businesses and canvassing by branch members locally. This not only promotes the concept of remembrance but the money raised is used locally to support the goals of the Royal Canadian Legion such as provide financial assistance to needy Canadian ex-service personnel, and Merchant Navy personnel and their dependents. Also eligible are ex-service personnel of other Commonwealth and Allied countries, now residing in Canada.

School Outreach Program

Over the last 2 years the branch has developed a program with local schools to make veterans available to go in to the classroom around Remembrance Day to meet with students of all ages. This is a great opportunity to reinforce the importance of Remembrance Day and the act of remembrance.

Remembrance Ceremonies

Branch 569 conducts Remembrance ceremonies at the Ingleside cenotaph and at the Lost Villages cenotaph during Remembrance Week, normally the Sunday prior to Remembrance Day itself. These ceremonies include participation from local groups such as the Air, Army and Sea Cadets, EMS Services, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Ontario Provincial Police, as well as local and Provincial politicians.
