Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Remembrance Day

Who are we?

Branch 569 of the Royal Canadian Legion is based on the St. Lawrence Seaway in Long Sault, Ontario a small village approximately 10 km west of Cornwall Ontario. The branch resides at 7 Frost Avenue in Long Sault and boasts in excess of 100 members from the local community. The branch promotes the goals of the Legion through its supports of activities in the local community, for both veterans and the general public.

Established in 1957 Branch 569 promotes the goals of the Royal Canadian Legion in supporting and advocating for veterans and their families throughout Eastern Ontario with emphasis on the villages of Long Sault, Ingleside and the surrounding area.

In addition to the annual Poppy Campaign Branch 569 organizes Remembrance Day ceremonies at the cenotaphs in Ingleside and at The Lost Villages in Long Sault. Throughout the year the branch is involved in the maintenance and upkeep of both cenotaphs ensuring that they reflect the solemn nature of the sites. The branch has also developed an outreach program with local schools giving students the opportunity to speak to veterans and hear their views on the meaning of and need for remembrance of the sacrifices of those that went before us.

On a monthly basis the branch sponsors the Legion's "Operation VetBuild" and "Buddy Check Coffee Chat" programs bringing veterans together to meet in a safe, familiar environment to enjoy the camaraderie they remember from their service days. These sessions also provide an opportunity to share information that benefits the participants.
